I think they all have pieces of their character that we can all relate to o3o
For Mami its the fear of loneliness and that she has been lonely for a long time but shes also very kind to everyone and she wants to be very helpful.
For Madoka its the feelings she has for her friends and while she tries to be strong she can cry because she cares for them so much.
For Sayaka its her bravery and willingness to protect her friends and fight evil.
For Kyouko its the independence and fierceness she has but shes also afraid of being vulnerable so she looks out for herself.
For Homura its being able to do things on your own to help others and being strong all by yourself even though you crave their support more than anything else.
At least this is what I can find myself relating to and what I think others can relate to. I kinda feel like some people dont pay enough attention or dont dig enough into characters and just dislike them because they dont know who they are truly. I think the show is very deep and meaningful you just have to search a bit.
